Eloping - what does it mean?

The Cambridge English dictionary defines ELOPEMENT to mean:  the act of leaving home secretly in order to get married.  Back in the day, eloping was getting married in secret without anyone knowing by ‘running away’ or ‘escaping judgement’.  Negative emotive language around the word eloping such as embarrassment, judgement or secrecy has clouded the act with a damaging reputation. 

Today, elopements continue to be a misunderstood topic – what does it mean to elope?   Can I have my family involved?  Does it need to be in secret?  Can I have guests?  Do I need to travel overseas to elope?  The answer to all the above is, IT'S UP TO YOU!!!  You can choose how to elope.  In modern times, the meaning of the word elopement has evolved.  It is a word that means so much more.  At LOPE EVENTS we define the word ELOPEMENT to mean;

We truly believe that eloping means to strip away the pressure of perfection, to abandon the traditional formality of a wedding, peel back the abundance of excess and feel free of obligation.  The act of getting eloped presents a world of possibilities, to marry your love in whichever way you choose.  Eloping can mean a secret ceremony in a special place or a small intimate ceremony with a small number of guests.  It can be a destination overseas elopement, interstate or close to home.  An intimate ceremony immersed in nature with a dinner party (reception) to follow.   There really is only one rule:  make it yours!
